Action Steps
Your next steps will vary depending on your level of experience of doing business with the public sector and your position within your company. Someone needs to take leadership in not only sourcing and pitching for tenders but also in ensuring that the company’s systems, processes and products or services meet demands and expectations. For example, your accounts department must be prepared to deal with electronic invoicing if that is what is required.
There are typically three scenarios. The “Newbie’” company – new to public procurement, the “Uncertain” company who may have tried in the past and failed and the “Experienced” who want more business!
“Newbie” Action StepsGain knowledge of the processes and systems involved Check internals – is the whole company resolved to go for it? Set goals – milestones of achievement Be realistic – how will you build credibility?
“Uncertain” Action StepsAnalyse results – why did you fail last time? Gain new knowledge – identify gaps and use this site to help Test & Improve – your tendering and presentation Target – focus on key prospects
“Experienced” Action StepsAnalyse success – can you replicate it? Build on it – what improvements can you make? Seek alliances – who can you collaborate with to improve skills and tendering? Bigger orders – can you use alliances to go for bigger orders and longer contracts? Set goals and benchmarks – develop your own best value measurement
